I want to personally congratulate the three Hillsborough teams that represented Hillsborough on behalf of Section 2 in the 2017 Western States Championship tournament. The Western States Championship is a competition featuring the very best teams from AYSO Sections 1, 2, 10, and 11. This year it took place in Carson Nevada.  The maps shows how large of an area the Western States Championship covers!

Hillsborough sent 3 teams to the tournament this year. Our U10G and U12B teams received their bid as league champions to represent Section 2 as the best teams in their age division for all of Washington, Oregon, Nevada, and Northern California. They competed in the "League Winners" competition. Our U10B team was given an at-large bid to represent Section 2 in the "All-Star" competition.

Section 2 Champions

U12B The Blue Killers coached by Jeetil Patel faced an extremely talented Watts team from Section 1 Area P Region 1595 in the first round and a team from Canyon Country Section 10 Area S Region 677 in the second round. We are very proud of our boys and Section 2 with the team placing as one of the top teams in the Western United States and the #1 team in Section 2 for this season. Thanks to the coaches and parents for supporting this team.

U10G The Silver Lighting Streaks coached by Thomas Fitzpatrick and Everett Oliven were narrowly edged out in the first round (1-0) by a La Mesa team Section 11 Area V Region 89 and were successful in the second round vs. Fillmore Section 10 Area W REgion 214 to land in 3rd place for the Western United States. We are very proud of these girls and their fantastic effort in winning Section 2 and placing in the tournament. Thanks to the coaches and parents for all their support.

I believe that this is the first time that Hillsborough has had any representation in this tournament as Section Winners. A very large accomplishment for our players and for our town.

Section 2 "All-Stars"

U10B The Hurricanes coached by Greg Regan/Ben Coughlin/Greg Brush. These boys benefited from a last minute "at-large" bid from the tournament director two days in advance. They got the nod on Thursday and showed up Sunday to compete. Having not practiced for a month and fueled by pizza these boys took the field. This happens for Section 2 because we do not have a formal  "all star" selection tournament like the other Sections do. The all star division is basically composed of champion Winter Select teams representing the best players that a region has to offer.

These boys stunned a very formidable Manhattan-Hermosa Beach team from Section 1 Area D Region 18 3-1 in the first round.  They squeaked by a tough Van Nuys team from Section 10  Area V Region 58 in the Championship Round to win the entire tournament and finish first place for Sections 1,2, 10, and 11.

A very great effort by the boys to pull off this victory for Hillsborough and Section 2. Thanks to the coaches and parents for making the last minute commit to traveling to Carson.
