Despite Injuries U15 Girls Have a Good Season.

The Chicago Inter U15 girls had a very good season this year and are hoping to get healthy to be competitive in the upcoming State Cup. The girls lost two starters to injuries and are looking forward to their return in to the line up to once again compete for the State Cup title. They have made the semi finals the last couple of years and made the finals against the Eclipse a few years back. This team has consistently been ranked one of the best teams in the state over the last 5 years and plays at the highest level in both tournaments and league play.

The girls played well in the Chicago Sockers Nike Classic tournament in October. Despite the injuries, they went 4-0 in the tournament, beating Lou Fusc Strikers from Missouri 4-2, the Isc Twisters from Iowa 3-0, the Grafton SC Rangers from Wisconsin 2-1 and played the Stars SC from Illinois in the finals. The Stars got off to an early lead and played very physical. They were ahead 1-0 at half and came out the second half determined to win. They scored a second goal 10 minutes into the half to make the score 2-0.

That's when the Inter girls decided to play more aggressive and they themselves scored two unanswered goals, tieing the game up with less then two minutes to play. After 3 more shots on goal, the whistle blew and the game went into overtime. The girls had their chances but couldn't get it past the Stars goalie. The game went into a shoot out and Cortneya Jerzy, Inter's star goalie, stopped a couple of penalty shots while the Inter girls buried their chances and went on to win the Championship!

They played the Stars a week later in league play and to prove it was no fluke, by beating them 4-1. The team plays in the U15 Championship Division of IWSL and recorded a 4-1-1 record, losing only to Nationally ranked NSA. They had 16 goals for and 7 against in the six games against the top teams in the division.
